Getting busy!
Do not fear, the Super Scoopers are here! Group picture of us all after a hard days work of laying hay and fertilizer down. We transplanted even more now and have almost our entire plot full. This type of work is gratifying because you can see such a difference in the field before and after all the tending.
Sometimes transplants need extra love and tending to. Here are the Super Troopers checking out the new plants and making sure they don't need any special care before planting them into the plot! The marigolds we plants should attract more pollinators to our plot and help our squash and cucumbers fruit. The peppers will last a few more weeks and hopefully we will a few to harvest before the cold. The purple cabbage in the back should keep thriving as we are coming into its season.
Garrett helping the transport and laying of the hay barrier we put down for weed control. This hay barrier also helps us as we tend to the vegetables and pick weeds from the area. The wheel barrel made things fast and effective, Jacked helped filling the barrel up and the team all worked hard to spread it evenly. Here is Sierra spreading compost over our squash and
sweet corn. We used an entire wheelbarrow full of compost to put on all of the
plants and to cover the buckwheat seeds at each end of the rows. We will
continue to use compost around our plants throughout the semester as needed.
Jack using the weeding tool in the walkways for quick
work. We spread hay over the paths following this to suppress future weeds and
save us the extra work. Oxalis and nutsedge seems to be the primary issue in
our plot as well as some volunteer mustard seed from past years.
Our plot is bustling with blooms! This little lady takes the day though, lough and behold our first Jalapeño pepper bloom. The Super Troopers hard work is paying off and we can feel a good season is among us. We have utilized a regular manure fertilizer at this point but plan to branch off and use others as well.
